Navy officer’s wife dies in Etawah train fall; TTE booked for murder

A routine journey in Uttar Pradesh turned into a disturbing tragedy after Aarti Yadav, wife of a Navy officer, died from a fall off a moving Patna–Anand Vihar special train in Etawah district. What was initially believed to be an accident quickly escalated into a criminal investigation when her family alleged that a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) pushed her off the coach.

Where the Incident Occurred

The fall reportedly took place between Bharthana and Samhon stations. Aarti, a resident of Bhognipur Pukhrayan in Kanpur Dehat, had boarded the train from Kanpur. She was travelling alone to Delhi to collect medicines and, according to relatives, mistakenly boarded the wrong train despite having a confirmed reserved seat.

Family’s Allegations Against the TTE

Aarti’s brother-in-law, Anil Kumar, claimed that TTE Santosh Kumar confronted her after checking the ticket and an argument followed. The family alleges two serious actions by the TTE:

  • He allegedly threw her luggage out of the coach several kilometres before the incident.

  • He then pushed her from the moving train, causing her immediate death on the tracks.

The family gathered at the Etawah mortuary demanding strict legal action and insisting the death was not accidental.

Aarti’s husband, Ajay Yadav, who serves in the Indian Navy and is posted in Chennai, was informed soon after the incident.

Police Response and Investigation

The Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a murder case based on the family’s written complaint.
GRP Circle Officer Uday Pratap Singh confirmed that investigators will examine all allegations, including claims of assault and whether Aarti’s belongings were forcibly thrown out of the coach.

A post-mortem examination has been completed, and further forensic analysis is expected to help reconstruct the sequence of events.

Background & Context

The Etawah Train Death Case adds to ongoing concerns over:

  • Passenger safety in general coaches

  • Proper conduct and accountability of railway staff

  • Challenges faced by solo travellers, especially women

With the allegations now forming part of a murder investigation, the case has triggered discussions about safety protocols and the need for better monitoring of staff behaviour on trains.

What Happens Next

Police teams are gathering eyewitness accounts, checking CCTV footage from stations, and verifying the TTE’s actions. The GRP has assured the family that all aspects will be investigated to determine whether the fall was accidental or the result of deliberate action.
